South Island 4-H Goat Club
The South Island Goat Club was established in 2010, after almost 30 years without a goat club in our district. We have been excited to renew members’ interest in the versatility of goats: showing, dairy, pet and companion, fiber (mohair), meat (chevon) and packing. This year we have 13 members and 5 leaders. We really appreciate the continued support and encouragement from our A, B and C leaders: Lulu Abbott, Gail Marthyman and Maria Hilton.
In 2010, 2011 and 2012, our club hosted the only Dairy Goat Buck Show in British Columbia with attendance from breeders as far north as Campbell River. In 2011 and 2012 we opened up the show to both does and bucks. In 2012 we were privileged to have Alberta Breeder Daniel Lawton as our Canadian Goat Society judge.
In addition to the South Island Buck and Doe shows, our club has been represented at our local Saanich Fair, the Cowichan Fair, the Vancouver Island Exhibition (Nanaimo), the Port Alberni Fair, and the Chilliwack Exhibition. In 2010 our members had the opportunity to be involved in the West National Goat Show when it was held in Chilliwack.
Our 2013 Executive is:
- President: Anika Marthyman
- Vice President: Trevor Abbott
- Secretary: Anna-Maria Hilton
- Treasurer: Eliah Marthyman
- Club Reporter: Piper Battersby
- Corresponding Secretary: Mackenzie Abbott
